Overview

As the lead for the strategic communications plan supporting the launch of the GeoAI Data Series, I planned and designed creative materials to promote the release of AI-derived geospatial datasets. The initiative showcases how Deep Learning models can extract features such as buildings, hydrography, forests, and roads from aerial and satellite imagery, demonstrating the value of AI in geospatial data production.

Problem

The GeoAI Data Series was a technically complex release with limited public awareness and few visuals to convey its impact. The challenge was to communicate the dataset's significance in an impactful and accessible way to both technical audiences and the general public

Process

I collaborated with data scientists and program leads to create a visual identity and outreach strategy for the series.

  • Creative Direction: Designed a custom web banner illustrating AI-based feature extraction, translating complex geospatial concepts into a clear, visual narrative.
  • Communications Strategy: Developed and executed a multi-channel communications plan including social media, newsletters, and conference materials.
  • Collaboration: Coordinated messaging across technical and communications teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with federal digital standards.

Outcome

The GeoAI Data Series launch featured:

  • A dynamic web banner showcasing AI-driven feature extraction
  • A coordinated social media campaign that increased visibility of GeoAI within the geospatial data community
  • Coverage in the quarterly branch newsletter and inclusion in the 2025 GC Data Conference spotlight presentation
  • Improved stakeholder understanding of the role of AI in geospatial innovation
